Former Minister's Supporters Urged to Stay Calm After Omission
Former Minister of Communication Technology, Isa Pantami, and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have been omitted from the Gombe State governorship list compiled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Pantami's camp has called on supporters to maintain calm amid the development.
INEC has released a preliminary list of candidates and their parties for the Gombe State governorship election. However, the commission failed to include the name of Mr. Pantami, a candidate for the PDP, in the list.
According to a statement from Pantami's camp, they are seeking clarification from INEC on the omission. The statement urged supporters to remain composed and await further information from the electoral body.
The statement read:
"We are currently engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ascertain the reasons behind this development. We urge our supporters to remain calm and patient as we await clarification from INEC."
Nigeria's electoral process has seen instances of omissions or errors in the past, prompting calls for transparency and accuracy from the electoral body. The PDP and Pantami's supporters await INEC's clarification on the matter.
Gombe State is scheduled to hold its governorship election on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
