Chief Dr. Robert Onyeani, president of Ahudiyannem Football Club, urged Nigeria’s under‑17 women’s side, the Flamingoes, to stay focused as they prepare for Saturday’s FIFA U‑17 Women’s World Cup final against Japan. His appeal came after the team secured a 3‑1 victory over Brazil on Wednesday night in Morocco, booking their first‑ever appearance in a world‑cup final.

The semi‑final win marked a historic milestone for the Flamingoes, who overcame a strong Brazilian side to reach the championship match. The triumph was celebrated by players and technical staff, but Onyeani cautioned that the celebrations should not distract the squad from the task ahead.

Addressing the team, Onyeani emphasized the need for discipline and determination, urging the girls to “go all out” and win the title for the first time. He warned that Japan are “no pushovers in women’s football” and called for a serious, focused approach to the final.

He expressed confidence that the composure, discipline and tactical awareness the Flamingoes displayed against Brazil could translate into victory over Japan. A win, he said, would not only bring a trophy but also write the team’s name in history.

Onyeani added that lifting the world‑cup would inspire countless young girls across Nigeria—Africa’s most populous nation—to take up football, further strengthening the country’s growing reputation in the women's game.
