The Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan, has formally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for urgent federal intervention to clean up pollution caused by a recent air crash in Ondo State, Nigeria.
The crash, which occurred in the state’s airspace, left debris and hazardous material scattered across the surrounding area, prompting concerns among residents about environmental and health impacts.
In his appeal, Oba Akinruntan urged the president to mobilise resources and coordinate a swift cleanup operation, emphasizing the need to protect the local community and restore the environment.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, is constitutionally responsible for overseeing national disaster response and allocating federal assistance to affected regions.
As the traditional ruler of Ugboland, a community within Ondo State, the Olugbo’s request reflects the growing anxiety of local leaders who rely on federal support to address emergencies that exceed their capacity.
At the time of publication, the federal government had not issued a public response to the monarch’s plea, and officials have not detailed any specific plans for the cleanup.
