The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared a faction of the OK Movement, the support group for its presidential candidate, to be fake and illegal. The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, issued a statement on Wednesday asserting that the group led by John Oghulu is not the legitimate OK Movement recognized by the NDC.
Agada’s comments were a direct response to remarks attributed to Oghulu, who had previously stated that his faction would not hand over its structures to the NDC. Oghulu characterized his group as an independent political organization that could not be absorbed into the party’s structure.
Reacting to these claims, Agada emphasized that the OK Movement responsible for driving mobilization for the NDC across Nigeria operates in close coordination with the party. He explicitly stated that the version of the movement known to the NDC did not authorize the statements circulating from Oghulu’s group.
“The OK Movement that we know did not authorise this statement. The OK Movement that has been driving mobilisation for the NDC across Nigeria is working closely with the party,” Agada said.
Agada further identified Oghulu as the individual referenced by the NDC’s National Leader in a video currently circulating on social media. According to the party official, Oghulu is actively working against both the NDC and the Obidient Movement.
The NDC’s assertion highlights a significant internal dispute regarding the legitimacy of support groups associated with the party’s presidential campaign, with the central leadership denying any affiliation with Oghulu’s faction.
