The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a call to the media in Ogun State to join forces in curbing vandalism that threatens critical national infrastructure and property. The appeal comes as the agency reports a rise in incidents of damage to public facilities and private assets across the state.
NSCDC officials say that vandalism not only undermines the safety of residents but also hampers economic activity and erodes public confidence in security institutions. By partnering with journalists and broadcasters, the corps hopes to raise awareness, identify perpetrators and deter future attacks.
“We need the media’s help to spotlight these acts and encourage community vigilance,” a spokesperson for the NSCDC said. “Public reporting can help us respond more swiftly and hold offenders accountable.”
Ogun State, located in southwestern Nigeria, hosts a number of key transport and industrial sites that are frequent targets of vandalism. The NSCDC’s initiative follows a broader national push to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure against sabotage and vandalism.
The agency urges citizens to report suspicious activity and to cooperate with law‑enforcement efforts. It also invites media outlets to cover ongoing investigations and to disseminate information on preventive measures for businesses and local communities.
