The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 38‑year‑old man in Kebbi State after an alleged defilement of an eight‑year‑old girl in Fana village, Dandi Local Government Area.
The incident was confirmed by Nasir Idris, Secretary of the Kebbi Technical Working Group on Gender‑Based Violence, in a statement released to journalists in Birnin Kebbi. Idris said the girl’s parents had reported the alleged offence to the NSCDC in Kamba, after which the survivor was taken to the Mai Talle Tara Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Kalgo for medical examination and documentation.
Following the medical assessment, the NSCDC transferred the suspect to the Kebbi State Command for detention and further legal proceedings. The suspect complained of ill health on arrival, prompting officers to defer his detention pending a medical examination.
Members of the Technical Working Group rejected a proposal that the survivor’s parents cover the cost of the suspect’s medical examination. The examination found no serious medical condition, and NSCDC officers assured the GBV working group that the suspect would be brought before the appropriate court for further action.
Kebbi State, located in north‑western Nigeria, has been working with national agencies to address gender‑based violence and ensure swift justice for victims.
