Former Sierra Leone Vice‑President Samuel Sam‑Sumana said Nigeria’s sacrifices in restoring peace to his country will remain indelible in its history.
Sam‑Sumana, speaking to the press, praised the Nigerian government and its people for their commitment and support during Sierra Leone’s post‑conflict reconstruction period. “Nigeria’s sacrifices in restoring peace to my country will remain unforgettable,” he said.
The comments come as Sierra Leone continues to build on the gains of its peace process, which ended the brutal civil war that lasted from 1991 to 2002. The country has relied on regional partners to help secure a stable political environment and to rebuild its institutions.
While the former vice‑president did not detail specific actions taken by Nigeria, his statement underscores the deep gratitude felt by Sierra Leone’s leaders for the country’s assistance in the years following the conflict.
Sam‑Sumana’s remarks highlight the enduring relationship between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, and the lasting impact of Nigeria’s involvement in the region’s pursuit of peace and stability.
