President Bola Tinubu announced that Nigerians will see a reduction in transportation costs from 1 October, as part of a national move to CNG‑powered vehicles.
In a statement released by the presidency, Tinubu said the shift to compressed natural gas (CNG) would lower fuel expenses for commuters and commercial operators alike.
He urged state governments to ensure that the savings generated by the new fuel mix are passed on to the public, and to monitor the implementation of the policy across their jurisdictions.
CNG is a cheaper and cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel, and the government has been promoting its use in public and private transport fleets.
The move is part of a broader effort to curb rising transportation costs and improve fuel affordability for Nigerians.
