Senior Pastor Lawrence Achudume, the head of Victory Life Bible Church International, has publicly condemned Nigeria’s prevailing political culture, saying that the nation’s habit of glorifying questionable wealth is stifling creative entrepreneurs and talented individuals from contributing to national development.
Speaking in a recent sermon, Achudume argued that many Nigerians now view politics as a shortcut to personal enrichment rather than a platform for public service, a perception he believes is eroding the country’s developmental prospects.
The cleric warned that this mindset discourages innovation and entrepreneurship, as aspiring businesspeople and skilled professionals feel less motivated to invest their talents in a system they see as rewarding corruption over merit.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, has long struggled with concerns over corruption and patronage in its political sphere. Critics say that the celebration of ill‑gotten riches reinforces a culture where public office is pursued for personal gain instead of national progress.
Achudume called for a cultural shift that values honest effort, creativity, and genuine public service, urging Nigerians to reject the glorification of illicit wealth and to support pathways that foster sustainable development.
