The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has placed 53 primary contacts under close observation after the country confirmed its first Ebola case. The agency is widening its investigations to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the patient at several locations.

In addition to contact tracing, the NCDC has approved a weekly support package of N100,000 to assist the affected individuals and their families. This financial aid is intended to help cover medical and logistical costs while the contacts are monitored for symptoms.

Health officials say the contacts were identified through a detailed review of the patient’s movements and interactions. The NCDC is coordinating with local health authorities to ensure that all potential exposure sites are thoroughly examined.

“We are conducting a comprehensive investigation to locate all possible contacts and to provide the necessary support,” a spokesperson for the NCDC stated. “Our priority is to prevent further spread of the virus.”

Ebola is a highly contagious and often fatal disease that can be transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals. The NCDC’s rapid response aims to contain the outbreak and protect the wider community.
