NGF Advocates Coordinated Data-Driven Solutions to Bridge Rice Production Deficit

The Nigeria Guaranty Trust Fund (NGF) has emphasized the need for coordinated data-driven solutions to address the country's rice production deficit, according to the Premium Times Nigeria report.

NGF's Director-General, Mr. Bello Shittu, stated that the organization has established a dedicated data department to gather and analyze relevant information for more effective agricultural policies.

"The NGF Helpdesk has set up a data department to ensure that we have reliable data for informed decision-making," Shittu said. "We are also encouraging every state to establish its own Bureau of Statistics."

By gathering and sharing accurate data, the NGF hopes to identify areas of improvement in rice production and promote collaboration between stakeholders to bridge the production gap.

"The NGF believes that by sharing data, we can identify the challenges and opportunities in rice production across the country, and work together to develop effective strategies," Shittu added.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach, stating that:

"The NGF is committed to working with all stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategy that will ensure food security in Nigeria."

The NGF's efforts come amidst Nigeria's ongoing struggle to meet its rice production targets. According to the report, the country currently imports about 90% of its rice requirements, leading to a significant drain on the nation's foreign exchange earnings.

By promoting data-driven solutions, the NGF aims to reduce reliance on imported rice and contribute to improving Nigeria's food security.

The Director-General also emphasized the need for accurate and reliable data in developing effective strategies:

"Data is the backbone of any effective strategy. It is crucial to have accurate data to identify the challenges and opportunities in rice production."

The NGF's efforts align with the Nigerian government's focus on improving agricultural productivity and reducing reliance on imported rice.

"The NGF's initiative is in line with the government's focus on agriculture and food security," said the Director-General.

The NGF's data-driven approach is expected to contribute to enhancing Nigeria's agricultural productivity and reducing the nation's dependence on imported rice.

"Data is the foundation for informed decision-making and effective policy formulation," Shittu added.
