Argentinian international Mateo Martínez was taken to hospital for precautionary tests after a head clash with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite during Saturday’s Premier League match, which saw Chelsea defeat Everton thanks to a two‑goal performance from forward Neto.
Neto opened the scoring and later added a second, his brace securing the win for the Blues and giving them three points in the league.
The injury occurred in the second half when Martínez and Branthwaite collided head‑first. Medical staff attended to Martínez on the pitch before he was escorted to the stadium’s medical facility and subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital for further examination.
Everton were unable to recover from the early deficit, and despite the incident, the match continued to its conclusion with Chelsea emerging as the victors.
Both clubs confirmed that Martínez’ condition would be monitored, emphasizing that precautionary scans are standard procedure following head injuries in professional football.
