The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Ogun State Government to transform the Gateway Industrial and Petro‑Gas Institute into a polytechnic. The student body argues that the change would broaden technical education and better meet the demands of the local economy.

The Gateway Industrial and Petro‑Gas Institute, situated in Ogun State, currently offers a range of vocational courses. NANS believes that upgrading the institution to polytechnic status would expand its curriculum, attract more students, and provide a wider array of technical and engineering programmes.

“Converting the institute into a polytechnic would enhance the quality of technical training available to students in the region,” the association said. It added that the move would align the school with national priorities for skill development and industrial growth.

Polytechnics in Nigeria play a key role in delivering practical, industry‑focused education. By upgrading the Gateway Institute, Ogun State could strengthen its position as a hub for technical training and support the development of a skilled workforce for the petro‑gas sector.

NANS has urged the state authorities to consider the proposal and has indicated that it will continue to lobby for the conversion, hoping to secure a formal decision in the coming months.
