Maputo, Mozambique – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that at least 1,235 people fled their homes in the northern province of Cabo Delgado following attacks carried out by Islamist terrorists.
The displacement occurred across four districts in Cabo Delgado between 14 and 27 October, according to the IOM statement released from Maputo.
All of the affected residents were forced to leave their houses due to the violence, the IOM said, but did not provide further details on the specific districts or the nature of the attacks.
Cabo Delgado is Mozambique’s northernmost province and has been the focus of security concerns in recent months. The IOM’s announcement highlights the ongoing impact of the Islamist insurgency on local communities.
Further information on the response by Mozambican authorities or the provision of assistance to the displaced population has not yet been released.
