Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said on Saturday that the club is confident it can prove its innocence after an independent tribunal reportedly found it guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules.
The tribunal’s decision was reported on Friday, but the Premier League has not yet made an official announcement and there is no clear indication of any sanction that may follow.
City, which is backed by Abu Dhabi, has consistently denied the charges. In a defiant open letter to fans on the club’s website, Al Mubarak reiterated the club’s stance and pledged to remain steadfast throughout the ongoing legal process.
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he wrote.
He added that he would like to share more details to help supporters understand why the club remains confident, but the strict confidentiality of the legal proceedings prevents him from doing so at present.
Al Mubarak was adamant that City would ultimately be vindicated. “While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed,” he said. “We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our club. We will not give them that opportunity.”
The club’s statement underscores its determination to navigate the investigation and maintain its position while awaiting further developments from the Premier League.
