A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Adamawa State, Nigeria, for allegedly stabbing his wife in the ribs with a knife. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, September 23, took place in Kurnyi Tudu Village within the Guyuk Local Government Area.
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that the suspect, identified as Balamau Lardi, allegedly attacked his 37-year-old wife, Biyagwal Balamau. According to a statement released by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, police operatives from the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters mobilized to the scene immediately after receiving information about the assault.
Authorities reported that the victim sustained grievous injuries to the left side of her ribs. She was rescued by the police and evacuated to a medical facility, where she underwent surgery and is currently receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police for the Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, publicly condemned the alleged act of gender-based violence. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a diligent investigation and prosecution.
Balamau Lardi remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
