Malian authorities are being urged to reveal the fate and whereabouts of lawyer and pro‑democracy politician Mount Tall and his son Cheick Mamadou Tall, Amnesty International said on Tuesday, six months after the pair were abducted.

The call comes as the country remains in the grip of political instability, following a series of coups and a crackdown on opposition figures. The abductions of Tall and his son were part of a broader pattern of detentions that has raised concerns among human‑rights groups.

In a statement, Amnesty International said: “Malian authorities must urgently disclose the fate and whereabouts of lawyer and pro‑democracy politician Mount Tall and his son Cheick Mamadou Tall.” The organisation highlighted the lack of information as a serious violation of the victims’ rights.

Mali, a West African nation, has faced repeated political upheavals in recent years. The country’s security forces have been criticised for detaining activists and opposition members without trial, a trend that Amnesty International and other watchdogs say undermines democratic governance.

So far, the Malian government has not provided any details about the status of Mount Tall or his son. The call for accountability remains unanswered, leaving families and civil‑society groups in uncertainty about the two men’s conditions.
