Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the Denver Broncos’ claim that the Seahawks engaged in a “SpyGate‑like” cheating scheme in 2024 was unfounded. Macdonald asserted that the Broncos’ accusation was wrongful and that no evidence supports the allegation.
The dispute centered on Broncos coach Sean Payton, who publicly accused Seattle of spying on the team’s operations. According to Macdonald, Payton later
“backed off”after the Seahawks warned they would file a lawsuit if the claim were made public.
“SpyGate” refers to the 2007 controversy in which the New England Patriots were penalized for videotaping opponents’ signals, a reference Macdonald used to emphasize the seriousness of the Broncos’ allegation.
Both franchises are members of the National Football League, and the threatened legal action has so far remained a private warning rather than a filed suit. No formal investigation or disciplinary action has been announced by the league.
For now, the issue appears to be settled between the two teams, with the Broncos withdrawing their public accusation and the Seahawks maintaining that they did not engage in any illicit spying activities.
