Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors will face an independent investigation into their conduct and actions over the past 12 months, the Rugby Football League (RFL) announced on Tuesday.
The RFL said the probe will be carried out by an external body to ensure impartiality, but did not disclose the specific issues prompting the review.
Both clubs compete in the Super League, the top tier of professional rugby league in England, and have been prominent fixtures in recent domestic competitions.
The governing body added that the investigation will examine any breaches of league regulations, player welfare concerns, or other matters that may have arisen during the previous year.
