SPIC Demands Reparations from Alamine Ousmane Mey
The Syndicat national des professionnels de l’information et de la communication (SPIC), the national union representing journalists and communication professionals in Cameroon, has called for reparations from former President Alamine Ousmane Mey.
The demand comes following a statement released by SPIC president Thierry Eba on Tuesday, 22nd, as reported by Actu Cameroun.

SPIC president Thierry Eba stated that the union is demanding compensation for the alleged violations of press freedom and human rights committed during Mey's presidency.
"The SPIC, as a watchdog of freedom of expression, cannot remain silent on the grave violations of press freedom and human rights that occurred during Alamine Ousmane Mey's presidency," said Eba.
Press Freedom and Human Rights Violations
Eba highlighted the impact of these alleged violations on the media and society in Cameroon.
"The press was muzzled, journalists were harassed, and human rights were trampled upon during that period," Eba explained.
SPIC's Call for Change
SPIC is urging the government to take action to address the past injustices and ensure a better future for Cameroon's media and citizens.
"We call on the Cameroonian government to take concrete measures to ensure press freedom and respect for human rights, as well as to ensure that the victims of these violations receive the justice they deserve," Eba demanded.
Mey's Current Status
Alamine Ousmane Mey currently resides in Equatorial Guinea, where he has been granted asylum following his ousting from power in 1992.
