The Lagos State Government has launched a five‑day child protection campaign aimed at safeguarding more than 1,500 children in the state’s six education districts. The initiative, announced early this week, seeks to raise awareness of child safety issues and provide support services to families and schools across Lagos.
Over the course of the campaign, officials plan to conduct workshops, health screenings and educational sessions for children, parents and teachers. The programme will also include outreach to vulnerable households and the distribution of informational materials on child rights and protection.
According to the government’s statement, the effort will be coordinated by the Lagos State Ministry of Education in partnership with local NGOs and community leaders. The partnership aims to strengthen existing child protection frameworks and improve reporting mechanisms for abuse and neglect.
Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city and economic hub, has a population of more than 14 million people. The city’s rapid growth has placed increasing pressure on its social services, making child protection a priority for state authorities.
