Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour, the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised Lagos State’s successive administrations for implementing policies that he says favour wealthy residents while leaving ordinary citizens behind.

Rhodes‑Vivour said the state’s high income tax rate (IGR) has not translated into tangible benefits for the average Lagosian. He argues that the tax revenue is being directed toward projects that primarily serve affluent neighbourhoods and business interests.

“The high IGR is not benefiting residents,” Rhodes‑Vivour told the press. “The policies of successive administrations have consistently prioritised the wealthy, neglecting the needs of ordinary people.”

He has called on the incoming administration to adopt a more inclusive approach, ensuring that tax revenues are invested in affordable housing, public transport, and social services that reach the broader population.

As Lagos prepares for the upcoming gubernatorial election, Rhodes‑Vivour’s remarks highlight growing concerns among voters about the distribution of public resources and the need for more equitable development strategies.
