The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on the Independence Bridge from 16 to 18 October 2026 to allow urgent asphalt repairs to be carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW).
Motorists using the bridge will be redirected to alternative routes for the three‑day period, the government said, in order to minimise disruption while the repair work proceeds.
Independence Bridge is a key crossing that links Lagos Island with the mainland and handles a high volume of commuter and commercial traffic each day.
The repair work is described as urgent, reflecting the importance of maintaining safe and efficient road conditions on one of Lagos’s main transport arteries.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the posted diversion signs during the repair window.
