The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued an ultimatum to the Federal Government, giving it two weeks from today, Friday, to lower the price of petrol, start renegotiating the national minimum wage and settle outstanding agreements with workers.
The labour federation said the demands come as the cost of living continues to worsen for ordinary Nigerians, putting additional strain on households already coping with high prices for basic goods.
As the country’s largest labour organisation, the NLC represents millions of workers across the public and private sectors and has historically been a key voice in national economic debates.
In its statement, the NLC warned that failure to meet the two‑week deadline could lead to further industrial action, heightening pressure on the administration to address the grievances.
The move adds to the mounting challenges facing the government, which must balance fiscal constraints with the need to protect the purchasing power of Nigeria’s population, Africa’s most populous nation.
