Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari condemned the killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday, describing the attack by suspected terrorists as a direct threat to Nigeria’s food security.

The victims were working on their farms when they were shot dead, according to the minister’s statement. He noted that three persons are still missing after the incident and urged authorities to locate them.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic killing of 15 farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected terrorists. These innocent Nigerians lost their lives while working on their farms to earn a living and contribute to the food security of our nation,” Kyari said, adding condolences to the families, the people of Marte, Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and the government of Borno State.

Kyari affirmed the federal government’s commitment to creating a safe environment for agricultural activities under President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He praised security agencies for their efforts to protect farming communities and called for intensified operations to apprehend those responsible for the killings.

“Protecting our farmers is protecting Nigeria’s food security,” the minister said, praying that Almighty Allah grant the deceased eternal rest, protect rural communities, and ensure the nation’s food supply remains secure.
