Karl Bushby, a 29‑year‑old former paratrooper, set out on a 31,000‑mile trek from Punta Arenas in southern Chile on 1 November 1998.
Over the course of the journey he crossed four continents and visited 30 different countries, covering a total distance of 31,000 miles.
The expedition, which began in the remote southern tip of South America, took Bushby through a variety of landscapes and climates as he walked from one nation to the next.
His long‑term walk was reported by PBS NewsHour, highlighting the endurance and determination required to complete such an ambitious undertaking.
