The Upper Sharia Court at Post Office in Kano has ordered the remand of TikToker Khadija Muhammad, popularly known as “Yar Lele,” to a correctional facility after she was charged with defamation and harassment.
Police presented Khadija before Justice Garba Malafa, who heard that the defendant had posted a video containing statements that allegedly damaged the reputation of MD Hassan, a politician from Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
During the hearing, Khadija pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, requested additional time to present witnesses and further evidence supporting the case.
Following submissions from both sides, the court remanded Khadija to a correctional facility and adjourned the proceedings until 14 October 2026 for further hearings.
Yar Lele’s case highlights the growing scrutiny of social media content in Nigeria, where public figures and activists often face legal action over online statements.
