Election results announced
Israel’s election results have been released, showing the composition of the next Knesset but leaving the identity of the future prime minister undecided.
The 120‑seat parliament now reflects the distribution of votes among the parties that contested the election, but no single party has secured an outright majority.
Because Israel’s parliamentary system requires a coalition to form a government, the parties will need to negotiate agreements before a new prime minister can be elected by the Knesset.
Israel is a parliamentary democracy in the Middle East, where the head of government is chosen by the Knesset after coalition talks. The next prime minister will therefore be decided once a coalition that commands a majority of the 120 seats is established.
