Musiliu Akinsanya, the president of Nigeria’s National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and popularly known as MC Oluomo, revealed that he is currently taking English lessons to improve his spoken fluency.

In an interview with Punch, the union leader said the decision to study English was driven by a desire to communicate more effectively in his role as a national spokesperson and negotiator.

“I am taking English lessons to speak fluently,” Akinsanya explained, noting that clearer communication would help him represent the interests of road‑transport workers more persuasively.

MC Oluomo has long been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s labour movement, leading NURTW through a series of industrial actions and negotiations with government bodies. His commitment to improving his language skills is seen as a step toward enhancing the union’s outreach and advocacy.

While the lessons are a personal endeavour, the president’s initiative highlights the importance of effective communication in the complex landscape of Nigerian labour relations.
