Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that he will not seek revenge for any injustice or injury inflicted upon him by individuals who previously supported him. El-Rufai made these remarks in an article titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” emphasizing that his primary concern is maintaining peace with his conscience and leaving judgment to God.
The statement comes as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained El-Rufai. The anti-graft agency is holding the former governor under a court remand order following a petition that alleges corruption, abuse of office, and money laundering during his tenure as governor.
“As for any injustice, ingratitude or injury done to me, I seek neither revenge nor retribution,” El-Rufai wrote in the article.
El-Rufai further explained that ultimate accountability rests with Almighty Allah, a judgment he leaves to the divine in both this world and the hereafter. He noted that while posterity will eventually render its own verdict on his actions, his personal focus remains on living in accordance with his choices and maintaining spiritual peace.
“In the end, each of us must live with the choices we make, and posterity will render whatever verdict it sees fit,” he added. “My only concern is to remain at peace with my conscience and, above all, with Almighty Allah.”
The ICPC confirmed that it is keeping the former governor in detention pursuant to the court’s remand order, a procedural step taken while the allegations against him are addressed within the legal framework.
