Two men from Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were shot dead by suspected gunmen at a mining site near Kuru Jenta on Friday night.
The killings took place at about 11:30 pm, according to community sources, when the victims were working at the site that lies on the boundary between Kuru Jenta in Jos South Local Government Area and Heipang.
Weng Bulus, a member of the affected community, condemned the attack and warned residents against engaging in mining activities after dark. She said the incident occurred during the state‑government curfew and urged people to remain vigilant and avoid movements during restricted hours.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders‑Association, also condemned the killing and called on security operatives to investigate, identify those responsible and bring them to justice. He urged miners to comply with government security measures and refrain from night mining.
Efforts to contact security operatives for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
