Gombe State has announced that it will enforce the recommendations issued by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) following the collapse of a canopy at the state Assembly complex.

The incident, which saw the canopy collapse during a routine event at the Assembly complex, prompted COREN to review the structure and issue a set of safety and compliance recommendations to the state authorities.

COREN, the professional body that regulates engineering practice in Nigeria, issued the recommendations to address the engineering deficiencies that led to the collapse and to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a statement, the Gombe State Government pledged to implement all of COREN’s recommendations, including any necessary structural reinforcements, safety inspections, and compliance checks.

The government said it will work closely with COREN and local authorities to ensure that the Assembly complex meets national safety standards and that all public buildings are inspected and maintained regularly.

By taking these steps, Gombe aims to protect public safety, restore confidence in state infrastructure, and demonstrate its commitment to upholding engineering and safety regulations across the region.
