Former Royal Australian Air Force pilot Robert John Crawford, 49, is on trial for the murder of his wife, Frances Elizabeth Crawford, in Upper Lockyer, Queensland. The couple’s home, located on a property near Toowoomba, was the scene where Frances’s body was discovered on 29 July 2024, close to a ride‑on lawnmower.

On Monday, Crawford pleaded not guilty to the charges. During the proceedings, the jury heard prosecutors describe him as a “love rat” and a “master manipulator,” alleging that he staged his wife’s death to make it appear accidental.

Witnesses and evidence presented to the court suggested that the circumstances of Frances’s death were deliberately engineered to conceal foul play. The prosecution has argued that the scene was set up to mislead investigators and that Crawford’s actions were premeditated.

Upper Lockyer is a rural locality in the Lockyer Valley, part of the greater Toowoomba region in Queensland. The case has drawn attention to the tragic circumstances surrounding the couple’s demise and the alleged manipulation by the accused.

As the trial proceeds, the jury will consider the evidence and determine whether Crawford’s plea of not guilty is upheld or whether he will be found guilty of murder.
