Florida has executed a 77-year-old man, marking the state’s 18th execution of the year. This recent capital punishment brings the state closer to matching its own historical record for annual executions.
According to reports, Florida set a state record last year by carrying out 19 executions within a single calendar year. The state is currently poised to tie that mark if another scheduled execution takes place next month.
The current execution count reflects a continued high volume of capital punishments in the state. With 18 executions already completed this year, Florida is on pace to equal the previous year’s total, which was established as a new state record.
Officials have indicated that one further execution is scheduled for next month. If this final proceeding is carried out as planned, it will bring the annual total to 19, matching the record set in the previous year.
