Vice President Kashim Shettima called on Nigeria’s state governments to address their local power challenges and to establish electricity markets in line with the Electricity Act of 2023.

Speaking to state officials, Shettima urged the governments to prioritise the resolution of power supply problems that have long plagued communities across the country. He highlighted the need for coordinated action to improve reliability and access to electricity.

The Vice President also stressed that the new Electricity Act provides a framework for the creation of state‑level electricity markets. By setting up these markets, states can better manage generation, transmission and distribution, and ultimately deliver more stable power to residents and businesses.

Shettima’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s energy sector, a sector that has faced chronic shortages and infrastructure deficits. The call to action underscores the federal government’s commitment to improving power supply as part of broader economic development plans.
