The Federal Government announced that it will launch the PENCARE healthcare initiative in November, a scheme designed to cover 30,000 low‑income pensioners across the country.
The initiative, revealed by the Director‑General of the Pensioners’ Committee (PenCom), will provide medical coverage to retirees who struggle to afford health services. PENCARE is aimed at addressing the gap in healthcare access for pensioners with limited income.
PenCom’s DG said the programme will roll out in stages, with the first batch of beneficiaries to receive coverage in the coming months. “This is a step toward ensuring that our pensioners can receive the care they need without financial hardship,” he added.
While details such as eligibility criteria and the exact benefits package remain to be released, the announcement marks a significant move in the government’s broader effort to strengthen social protection for vulnerable groups.
