The Federal Government has announced that selected Nigerians will receive a monthly cash support of N50,000 under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI). The aid will be delivered through five approved digital banks and mobile money platforms.
Beneficiaries can access the funds via the following services and USSD codes:
- ALAT (Wema Bank): Dial 94523#
- MoMo (MoMo PSB): Dial 6710#
- NairaGram (Mobile wallet): Dial 72600#
- OPay (Mobile money): Dial 95520# or use the OPay app
- Moniepoint (Microfinance bank): Dial 557327# or use the Moniepoint app
According to the NERSI website, the programme will notify eligible households by SMS from one of the five providers. Recipients must reply “YES” to confirm participation, after which a mobile wallet linked to their phone number and National Identification Number (NIN) will be opened and the N50,000 will be credited.
Once the money is in the wallet, beneficiaries can withdraw it through a point‑of‑sale (POS) agent, at a bank, or spend directly from the mobile wallet.
The government has warned that the programme is free of charge and that no fees, separate registrations or visits to government offices are required. It cautioned Nigerians against fraudsters who may ask for money to facilitate selection or release of the funds, and advised users not to disclose PINs, one‑time passwords or passwords to anyone, including agents and officials.
The Humanitarian Assistance Programme, administered by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, is a shock‑responsive cash transfer initiative aimed at providing financial relief to poor and vulnerable households facing rising living costs. Not all eligible households will be included in the first batch, and no payment can secure a place on the list.
