The European Commission announced on Friday that TikTok must redesign its “For You” feed to give users greater ability to opt out of seeing certain content, citing violations of the bloc’s digital rules.
The “For You” feed, which curates short‑form videos based on algorithmic recommendations, is a core feature of the popular short‑video platform. The Commission’s directive requires the feed’s design to be altered so that users can more easily control the types of content that appear.
The move is part of the European Union’s broader effort to enforce its Digital Services Act, which obliges online platforms to provide transparent and user‑friendly mechanisms for content selection and moderation.
Representing the 27 member states, the EU’s executive arm said the change is necessary to ensure that TikTok complies with the regulatory framework that aims to protect consumers and promote fair competition in the digital market.
TikTok has not yet responded publicly to the Commission’s demand, and the platform will need to implement the required adjustments to avoid further enforcement actions.
