Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced that Ethiopia has officially taken delivery of 12 Russian Su-35 fighter jets, marking a significant expansion of the nation’s aerial combat capabilities.
In addition to the arrival of the new aircraft, the Prime Minister confirmed that Ethiopia is set to receive S-400 air defence systems, further strengthening the country’s military infrastructure.
The announcement highlights a deepening defense partnership between Ethiopia and Russia, as Addis Ababa integrates advanced Russian hardware into its armed forces.
The Su-35 is a multirole fighter jet known for its high maneuverability and long-range strike capabilities, while the S-400 system is a long-range surface-to-air missile system designed to protect against various aerial threats.
These acquisitions are expected to enhance Ethiopia’s strategic defense posture in the region, providing the military with more advanced tools for both offensive and defensive operations.
