Tolu Arokodare secured a vital point for Ajax after coming on as a substitute in the club’s Eredivisie home match against Excelsior on Saturday night. The Nigeria international’s 64th‑minute strike rescued a 2‑2 draw for the Dutch champions.

Ajax took the initiative early in the second half when Julian Brandt found the net two minutes after the half‑hour mark, putting the home side ahead. However, Excelsior responded before the break, with Lennard Hartjes equalising in first‑half stoppage time.

The visitors then seized the lead for the first time in the game when Aymen Sliti scored in the 62nd minute. Two minutes later, coach Erik Michel introduced Arokodare for Kasper Dolberg, and the substitute restored parity just two minutes after coming on.

The goal marked Arokodare’s sixth of the season across all competitions for Ajax. The result left the Amsterdam club in second place in the Eredivisie, holding 14 points from seven matches.

Ajax will look to build on the point when they host NEC Nijmegen in their next league fixture on Saturday, 10 October.
