The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced on 30 October 2026 that two suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases in Adamawa State have tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing, confirming that the only laboratory‑confirmed Ebola infection in the country remains the index case identified in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The two patients, who presented with symptoms suggestive of Ebola in Yola, were immediately isolated while public‑health authorities launched investigations. The Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) received the report in the early hours of 30 October, and samples were collected for confirmatory testing.

“Fortunately, the samples turned out negative for EBV after two rounds of testing,” Director‑General Dr Jide Idris said.

Dr Idris praised the proactive response of the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team, noting that NCDC will continue to provide technical support to strengthen the state’s response operations. He reiterated that, at present, there is no laboratory‑confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa and that the FCT case remains the sole confirmed infection in Nigeria.

The clarification comes amid heightened vigilance following a confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola case in Abuja involving a traveller from Uganda. The suspected cases in Adamawa had raised concerns about possible spread, prompting state and federal authorities to activate investigation and precautionary measures.

Idris urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid circulating unverified information, and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, especially after relevant exposure. He emphasized that continued vigilance, early detection and coordinated national response are essential to protect public health.
