Romanian authorities launched search and rescue operations off the Black Sea coast on Thursday after a drone struck a ship that subsequently caught fire.
The incident is part of a spate of strikes in the region, signalling an escalation of hostilities that has raised concerns about the conflict in Ukraine spreading further.
According to officials, the drone hit the vessel, causing it to ignite and forcing the crew to abandon ship.
Rescue teams were dispatched immediately to the site to assist any survivors and to contain the blaze.
The attack has intensified fears that Russia’s war in Ukraine could expand beyond its current borders.
