Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has appealed to the club’s supporters to continue backing Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal after the football giant announced plans to nominate him for a position on its board of directors.
The proposal, revealed by Real Madrid officials, would see Nadal considered for a role on the club’s governing board, a move that has sparked discussion among fans about the intersection of sport and club administration.
Speaking on the matter, Mourinho urged supporters not to “stop loving Nadal over the Madrid role,” emphasizing that the tennis champion’s achievements and character merit ongoing admiration regardless of any new responsibilities at the football club.
Nadal, a 22‑time Grand Slam champion and one of Spain’s most celebrated athletes, has long been a cultural icon in the country, with a reputation that extends beyond the tennis court into broader public life.
Mourinho’s comments highlight Real Madrid’s willingness to explore cross‑sport collaborations, while also reinforcing the message that the club’s fan base should maintain its respect for Nadal’s legacy as he potentially takes on a board position.
