The Obidient Movement has issued a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other political actors, urging them not to attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. The movement released a statement on Tuesday in response to recent remarks made by Wike regarding the 2023 presidential election, specifically his disclosure that former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G5 governors deliberately prevented Labour Party candidate Peter Obi from winning in Rivers State.
In the statement, signed by the Media and Communications Directorate of the Obidient Movement and distributed via its X handle, the group expressed "grave concern" over Wike’s public comments. The document, titled “Wike’s Open Confession to Election Manipulation and Rigging on TVC: Write Your Will Now If You Are Planning to Manipulate 2027 Results,” accused Wike and others of committing a "treasonable offence" against the Nigerian people by manipulating 2023 election results to favor Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Any manipulation or attempted manipulation of the people’s will would be met with forceful resistance, including the possible infliction of terminal wounds on such people,” the statement said.
The movement further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fulfill its constitutional responsibility of conducting credible elections, criticizing the body for what it described as a "charade" and alleged loyalty to the ruling APC since 2019. The Obidient Movement insisted that INEC’s primary allegiance must be to the Nigerian people and the integrity of the electoral process, rather than to any specific political party.
Security agencies were also targeted in the warning, with the movement asserting that their duty is to protect voters, electoral officials, and the democratic process, not to intimidate citizens or facilitate electoral manipulation. The group cautioned that if security agents continue to prioritize loyalty to "criminals" over the Nigerian people, they will be treated as enemies, comparing such actions to an armed robber breaking into a home.
Addressing political thugs, the statement urged them to refuse to be used by politicians to scatter polling units, noting that such individuals are often discarded once the election concludes. The Obidient Movement emphasized that the 2027 election must be decided by voters at polling units, not by politicians in private rooms or compromised officials, and warned that Nigerians would not accept results predetermined by political actors.
The statement concluded with a call for a free, fair, transparent, and credible election, asserting that the peaceful nature of Nigerians should not be mistaken for weakness. “The ballot belongs to the people. Nobody has the right to steal it. Nobody has the right to manipulate it,” the movement stated, adding that Nigeria must be OK.
