Luis Diaz struck a hat‑trick as Bayern Munich demolished RB Leipzig 6‑1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, propelling the German giants to the summit of the Bundesliga table.
The dominant display saw the hosts score six goals in the first 55 minutes, with Diaz netting once before and after a Harry Kane tap‑in. Kane, in his 100th Bundesliga match, also supplied two assists, while Aleksandar Pavlovic and Michael Olise added to the tally. Leipzig’s only goal came from Andrija Maksimovic in stoppage time.
Vincent Kompany, who sat on the bench with a hip complaint, guided Bayern to their best performance of the season and the club’s third consecutive win against Leipzig, a 17‑1 aggregate advantage. The result lifts Bayern to the top of the table ahead of Borussia Dortmund, who had briefly edged Freiburg after a draw at Union Berlin.
Dortmund’s 0‑0 draw at Union Berlin left the club still chasing the summit. Waldemar Anton said the team “simply have to get better in attack” after a season that began with six consecutive wins but has stalled with two draws and a loss in the last three matches.
Elsewhere, Stuttgart fell 1‑0 to Hamburg, while promoted Elversberg edged Augsburg 4‑3, and Werder Bremen drew 2‑2 with Paderborn. Mainz beat Schalke 1‑0, moving into fifth place.
With Bayern now top of the league, the German champions look to carry their form into Wednesday’s Champions League home tie with Arsenal, while Dortmund and other clubs will be keen to regain momentum in the run‑in.
