Delta Monarch Pledges Support for Nigeria Customs Service's Anti-Smuggling Drive
The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom in Delta State, Felix Mujakperuo, has shown his kingdom's backing for the Nigeria Customs Service's efforts in combating smuggling within the region. In a recent statement, the monarch emphasized the importance of securing Nigeria's borders and supporting the government's drive to curb illegal activities.
The Nigeria Customs Service has been actively implementing measures to curb smuggling in the country, which has been a major concern due to its negative impact on the economy and revenue generation.
Background on Nigeria Customs Service and Smuggling Issues
- Nigeria Customs Service: The NCS is a government agency responsible for collecting revenue through import and export duties.
- Smuggling: Smuggling refers to the unauthorized transportation of goods across borders with the intention to evade taxes and duties.
The Orodje's support for the NCS's anti-smuggling drive could potentially strengthen their efforts and contribute to increased cooperation among local communities in combating smuggling activities.
The Role of Traditional Rulers in Enhancing Security
Traditional rulers in Nigeria often play a crucial role in maintaining peace and order within their domains. By supporting the NCS's anti-smuggling drive, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom is demonstrating the importance of collaboration between government agencies and local stakeholders.
The Orodje's backing could potentially encourage other traditional rulers across the country to engage in similar partnerships with security agencies, enhancing overall security and economic growth.
