The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a new partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other agencies to strengthen intelligence sharing and tackle cross‑border money laundering and terrorism financing.

Under the collaboration, the agencies will coordinate their efforts to identify and disrupt illicit financial flows that move through Nigeria’s borders. The partnership is intended to improve the flow of information between customs officials and the criminal‑investigation bodies that track financial crimes.

While the announcement did not detail specific operational mechanisms, it underscored the growing need for tighter cooperation as Nigeria remains a key transit point for cash and goods that can be used to launder proceeds of crime or fund extremist activities.

Money laundering and terrorism financing are recognised as major threats to Nigeria’s economic stability and national security. By pooling resources and intelligence, the agencies aim to close gaps that allow illicit funds to move unchecked across the country’s borders.

Officials said the joint effort would also help to identify suspicious shipments and financial transactions, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of Nigeria’s anti‑corruption and anti‑crime frameworks.
