On Sunday, global crude oil prices stayed below the $100‑per‑barrel mark, with Brent crude trading at $98.32 and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $90.83 per barrel, according to a market survey by the Daily Post.

Although the two benchmark grades recorded modest gains, they remained firmly under the $100 threshold following the United States mid‑term elections.

In Washington, the Democratic Party regained control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. President Donald Trump attributed his party’s loss to the ongoing Iran conflict and soaring gasoline prices, though he promised to reverse the impact of the defeat.

The war involving Iran, the United States and Israel has continued since February, causing volatility in crude prices and, in turn, affecting domestic gasoline costs in several economies, including Nigeria.

Domestic fuel prices in Nigeria fell last week but remain high, ranging between N1,325 and N1,420 per litre in Abuja and its environs.
