Michael Carrick, the former Manchester United midfielder now coaching the club’s under‑21 side, said he remains optimistic about the progress of Carlos Baleba, a young Cameroonian midfielder in the United system, while urging patience from fans and the club’s management.

Baleba, who joined Manchester United’s academy in 2021, has been working hard to adapt to the demands of English football. The 19‑year‑old has spent the past season training with the U21s and has been called up to the first‑team squad on a few occasions, according to club sources.

In a statement released to the Cameroonian news outlet Actu Cameroun, Carrick noted that Baleba’s development is on track but that the player still needs time to fully adjust to the intensity and tactical expectations of the Premier League environment.

“We see a lot of potential in him and he is making steady progress,” Carrick said. “However, it is important that we give him the space and time to find his rhythm.”

Manchester United’s youth policy has long emphasised gradual integration of academy graduates into senior football, a philosophy that Carrick’s comments reflect. The club’s coaching staff continue to monitor Baleba’s progress closely as he works toward a more permanent role in the first team.
