Broadcaster Mike Breen apologized on Wednesday for the reaction to a story he shared that alleged LeBron James had called out Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid for showing up late, a claim that James has since disputed.
The story, which Breen circulated on his platform, suggested that James publicly criticized Embiid for tardiness. No further details about the alleged incident were provided in the original post.
LeBron James, a four‑time NBA champion, responded by refuting the claim, stating that he never made such a comment about Embiid. His denial was reported by multiple outlets shortly after the story gained attention.
In his Wednesday statement, Breen expressed regret for the reaction the story generated and acknowledged that the information he shared was inaccurate. He did not elaborate on how the story originated.
Both James and Embiid are among the NBA’s most prominent players, and Breen is a veteran broadcaster known for his work on national basketball telecasts. The episode highlights the challenges of verifying information before it spreads across sports media channels.
